AceMedEd ("we", "us") runs acemeded.com, including the Against the Curve blog and the OrthoSCORER course. AceMedEd is operated by Mehdi "AC" Talle, an individual based in California. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter: your email address, if you sign up.
- Contact form: your name, email address and message.
- OrthoSCORER: the details you enter to create a members' account to access the course (typically your name and email address).
- Optional support payments: OrthoSCORER is free. If you choose to support it with a one-time or recurring payment, we receive your name, email address, billing details and payment history. Card payments are processed by Squarespace's payment partners (Stripe or PayPal), and we never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how people find the site (for example, pages visited, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, and the site that referred you). Google Analytics uses cookies to do this.
- Spam protection: our forms use Google reCAPTCHA, which collects information about your device and how you interact with the page to tell people from bots.
- Hosting: our host, Squarespace, keeps standard server logs and sets cookies needed for the site to work and for basic site statistics.
We don't collect health information, and we don't ask for it. Please don't send patient information through the contact form.
How we use it
- To send the newsletter you asked for, and to answer messages you send us.
- To give you access to OrthoSCORER and keep your account working.
- To process support payments, manage recurring support, and send supporters the extra newsletter issues that come with it.
- To see which posts and pages are useful, so we can improve them.
- To keep the site secure and free of spam.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
Only the services that run the site for us, and only for the purposes above:
- Squarespace (website hosting, forms, members' areas): squarespace.com/privacy
- Google (Analytics and reCAPTCHA): policies.google.com/privacy
- Stripe and PayPal (processing payments, through Squarespace): stripe.com/privacy, paypal.com/privacy
Squarespace also stores newsletter sign-ups and sends the newsletter (Squarespace Email Campaigns).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact messages: as long as needed to respond, and no longer than two years.
- OrthoSCORER accounts: until you ask us to delete them.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting rules require (typically seven years).
- Analytics: under Google Analytics' data-retention setting, which keeps detailed data for no more than 14 months.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. To opt out of Google Analytics on every site, use Google's opt-out browser add-on.
- Recurring support: cancel any time from your account or by contacting us.
- Access, correction or deletion: email acemeded@gmail.com or use our contact page, and we'll respond within 30 days.
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, to request deletion or correction, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law. Visitors in the EU/UK may also object to processing and request a copy of their data; we rely on your consent (newsletter), our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (analytics, security), and performance of a contract (OrthoSCORER accounts). You can use any of these rights by emailing acemeded@gmail.com or through our contact page.
Children
This site is meant for college students, medical trainees and educators. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email acemeded@gmail.com and we'll delete it.
Security
We rely on our providers' security, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections across the site. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Links to other sites
Posts link to journals, publishers and other sites. Their privacy practices are their own; check their policies.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted on this page and in the newsletter.
